Extended Author’s Note

Final thoughts
by John Chubb

It’s amazing how much time had passed since I began this story. So much had happened in the six years since I began this story in mid-2000 and graduated college in 2001. Lightspeed Rescue had been the Ranger series of that year(Alison MacInnis was very pretty), I had moved to a new city briefly in 2004, explored so much of life, and worked on other ideas still in the works. Plenty of joy and disappointments in life, and as I bring this chapter of my life to aclose (meaning this story called I.D. War) I look forward to finishing other chapters. Such as After the Siege and the Q team’s version of Conquest of Evil.
So what happens now? Well that’s the million dollar question isn’t it? So let me enlighten you, the reader, on where I’m planning on going next.
The I.D. War story ENDS at ‘All or Nothing.’
And I will NOT do an I.D. War 2.
The main reason being that this story took me six years to write. Far longer than I had intended. And there are plenty of things I want to do with my life. One of which is to finish ‘After the Siege’ as well as finish the Q-team’s ‘COE’ as I mentioned above. I also am looking to take a shot at pro writing. Although with Hollywood being as it is I do wonder why I’d even bother. I guess I’m just the kind of guy who would like to see his name in lights at least one time.
That does NOT mean the story for I.D.War ends. Already there are discussions from other members looking to continue the I.D. War storyline. A proposal for a story called ‘Alternate Fronts’ has been thrown around. A brain child of Adam Safran, Richard Carta and Shadow Ranger. And a new member in Adam Pearlman will be looking to make his presence felt. Keep your eyes focused on him. And I may drop some insights into a storyline from time to time.
I.D. War was always supposed to be more than just a continuance of Adam Safran’s Q-War story. It was also meant to be a springboard for other story ideas in different universes. Of course I always envisioned that the adventures would be in the universes visited. Shows what I know. But then again it just might happen. I will admit to having a soft spot for the Mystic Knights universe in ‘Cyberknights’. And who knows? Maybe that universe will be visited again someday.
But if anything is learned, it’s that all things must end. With I.D. War I carried a heavy load. And sometimes it felt like the load only got heavier. I won’t say how, but I will say it can be hard to do justice to so many characters, and still try to tell a good story.
So was I.D.War a good story? Well that’s a question only a reader can answer. And if you’re reading this then the decision on I.D. War’s worth is up to you. You’ll either think it’s crap, too long, too many characters, or you might think ‘Damn that wasn’t a bad story’. I for one hope it’s the latter, but that’s the reader’s call to make.
So if anyone wants to take up a pen, continue a story in another universe, show me up as a writer by exploring their own angles, go ahead and try. The baton is out and I’m ready to hand off.
So who’s ready to continue the relay?

And it Ends
By ShadowRanger
What was I thinking? I can remember asking that quite a few times over the last six years since we started this project. ID War is the amalgamation of vastly different ideas brought together to tell a story. At times it has been a mess, a constant struggle to find a way to bond the many elements together, while all the time resisting the urge to add more and more to the mix.
There are probably more characters in ID War than any other fanfiction series, more original characters as multiple authors donated their characters and multiple versions of the same character coming together. Writing all those characters was a chore that I am pleased tp say that John handled admirably.
But we managed it, how about that. Take a bow Captain Chubb you’ve managed to steer the Good Ship ID War through the many icebergs and delivered your cargo to the waiting readers. Now so long as some rowdy drunkards don’t sneak on board and toss it into the sea like those silly colonists did a while back, we have a nice finished story.
So what next? Well John has said there won’t be an ID War 2 and I whole heartedly support that decision. There are plenty of ways for other series to pick up from here and I think between Adam Pearlman’s series, Adam Safran’s projects, the continued work on the Q-Team’s version of COE and my own version of COE, we’ll cover those angles, not to mention John’s continuation of After the Siege.
So that’s it from ID War, but certainly not the last of the Q-Team’s work. Watch this space, it does tricks and in the mean time: thanks for all the fish. 🙂

My Final Thoughts
by Adam Pearlman

Reading the ID War has been a fantastic feeling for me, not only because it has been one of the best series of Ranger fiction on the web, but also being included in it was a privilege. John has helped me out with many of my own stories, allowing me to use his Night Ranger characters in my own series was a fantastic gesture and his ideas to help me progress my story have been invaluable. While I’m taking a break myself from writing, I hope that soon I will be back better than ever and that John and the others of the Q-Team will be there to assist and support me as I endeavour to continue and finish thisseries!
